Scientific interests:

  • Experimental geochemistry, mineralogy, and petrology
  • In-situ studies of aqueous fluid properties and fluid-solid interactions at high temperatures and pressures
  • Hydrothermal diamond-anvil cell, synthetic and natural fluid inclusions; Raman spectroscopy, synchrotron radiation XRF spectroscopy, microthermometry

Projects:

  • quantitative Raman spectroscopy to high pressures and temperatures: temperature and pressure dependence of the relative differential ν1-SO42- Raman scattering cross section of a quartz-saturated H2O+Na2SO4 solution at 21 to 600 °C and 0.1 MPa to 1.1 GPa
  • Raman spectroscopic study of the system H2O+MgSO4±NaCl to 700 °C and 5 GPa: behavior of sulfate in subduction zone fluids and large solar and extrasolar H2O+rock bodies
  • phase equilibrium and Raman spectroscopic study in the system H2O+Na2O+ CO2+ SiO2 to 600°C and 2 GPa
  • liquid-liquid transition in aqueous fluids
  • PVTx properties and electrical conductance of H2O+NaCl±SiO2 fluids to 600 °C, 5 GPa, and 50 wt% NaCl
  • trace element partitioning and equilibration between silicate melts and aqueous fluids
  • solubility of HFSE minerals and HFSE complexation in H2O+Na2O+SiO2±Al2O3 fluids: e.g., in situ determination of the solubility of rutile and the complexation of Ti in H2O+NaAlSi3O8 and H2O+Na2SiO5 solutions at high P and T
  • Sr partitioning between fluid and mineral and reaction kinetics of Sr-anorthite and Sr-zoisite with aqueous CaCl2 solutions in the presence of kyanite and quartz
