Scientific interests:
- Probabilistic seismic hazard assessments as basis for building codes
- Regional earthquake cataloging and historical seismology
- Induced seismicity
- Probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment
- Macroseismology
- Intensity related ground motion models
- Seismic risk assessment and synopsis of risk due to different perils
Projects:
Research topics and related projects (selection):
- Seismic hazard harmonisation for the European-Mediterranean region (part of the projects SHARE, GEM1, NERIES, SESAME und GSHAP)
- Providing seismic loading for national building codes, seismic regulations, or for the insurance industry (for the codes DIN4149, DIN19700, for use by the insurance industry e.g. in the frame of the project HORA)
- Probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment for the coast line of the Mediterranean sea (as part of the project TRANSFER)
- Induced seismic hazard assessment related to geothermal projects (as part of the project GEISER)
- Regional long-term earthquake cataloging and historical seismology with the latest catalogue products EMEC and CENEC
- Macroseismology with the European Macroseismic Skale EMS-98, which is not only used for intensity assignments but widely also as risk predictive tool
- Intensity related ground motion models mainly developed in the frame of the project SAFER
- Seismic risk mapping of Germany and risk synopsis of the city of Cologne (part of the project CEDIM and DFNK)
