MEGACITIES
MEGACITIES Istanbul
In the project "Megacities", CEDIM aims at developing methods for monitoring earthquake hazard, fragility, and vulnerability. These methods should allow near real-time updating of relevant parameters in order to cope with the development of the city. Following the risk chain the results and methods developed in the four sub-projects: Numerical stress field modelling, Microzonation, Fragility & Vulnerability, and Indirect Losses will be merged and made available for catastrophe management and urban planning.
As project partner, funded by the "Integrated Earth Observation System" of the Helmholtz Association and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum, we apply an interdiciplinary approach combining remote sensing, geological and seismological data to study possible neotectonic movements in the Istanbul area. This provides enhanced input parameters to be included in Source Zone Models, leading to improved Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Models.
