SESAME

Seismotectonic and Seismic Hazard Assessment of the Mediterranean Basin

The IGCP project SESAME (Seismotectonic and Seismic Hazard Assessment of the Mediterranean Basin) was focussed on the extension of the uniform seismic source zone model derived within GSHAP for Europe north of the Mediterranean (GSHAP Regions 3 at the GFZ) to the south.
Existing seismic source zone models, which were derived for national projects in the Mediterranean were joined according to seismotectonic constraints. Moreover, new seismic source zone models were provided for Greece, Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean. Differences between the GSHAP map and the SESAME map concentrate there.
