The living Euro-Med earthquake hazard
Seismic hazard has traditionally been assessed at a national level in Europe. However, a first unified earthquake hazard map for Europe and the Mediterranean was published in 1999 in the framework of GSHAP, and completed in 2002 for Europe as a whole in the framework of the SESAME project of the European Seismological Commission.
Based upon this, Section 2.6 has the intention to:
- update a unified earthquake catalogue up to present time,
- develop techniques and infrastructure to re-compute the hazard maps automatically whenever new significant data become available and adjustments must be made, or when changes in the seismicity distribution occur which alter the hazard.
Through a universal portal, Euro-Med hazard results will ultimately be centrally disseminated. The necessary infrastructure should be useful on a broader level and thus facilitate a more pretentious and sustainable approach to earthquake hazard mapping.

Developing new approaches to earthquake hazard assessment and forecasting
A new generation European hazard map has been established by considering an up-to-date earthquake catalogue and ground motion models and applying the new methodology of seismic hazard assessment called the hybrid zoneless approach. To build up a hazard map according to this approach, the source parameters acquired from earthquake catalogue and large-scale zones based solely on the large-scale geological architecture are the only inputs of this approach. Because of the minor model assumptions for the hybrid zoneless approach, it provides a suitable basis for application to automatically performed seismic hazard assessment in regular time steps accounting for updated earthquake catalogue in the future as it is part of NERIES JRA2
