Seismic Hazard Assessment for the D-A-CH countries
(Germany D, Austria A, Switzerland CH)
The seismic hazard assessment for the D-A-CH countries (Germany D, Austria A, and Switzerland CH) started in 1993 as an initiative from the GFZ Potsdam. The D-A-CH countries became then the test area for the Global Seismic Hazard Assessment Program (GSHAP) activities at the GSHAP Regional Centre - chaired by G. Grünthal - at the GFZ Potsdam.
Probability seismic hazard assessments were carried out, based on a joint earthquake catalogue for the study area and a common model of seismic source zones.

 Seismic hazard map (intensity based) for a 90% non-exceedence probability within 50 years.

| The calculated seismic hazard maps are precondition for the map of earthquake zones for the new German construction standard suitable for earthquakes and for engineering applications in Switzerland and Austria. | ||
