Scientific interests:

I am interested in processes in the crust and mantle controlling physical state, composition and dynamics of the lithosphere-asthenosphere system. Of particularly interest for me are deformation processes at plate boundaries and mantle plumes. To study those we develop and employ methods of coupled thermo-mechanical and petrophysical modelling as well as methods of integrative interpretation of geophysical observations in terms of composition and temperature. These studies are the focus of the Section 2.5 Geodynamic modeling. We have also developed numerical models of generation and propagation of the Sumatra Tsunami of 26.12.2004 and suggested "GPS-Shield" concept for the Early Tsunami Warning.

Projects:

Principal Investigator of the following projects

Running projects

  • Project “Combining global and lithospheric-scale thermomechanical models of continental break-up in South Atlantic” within the framework of the SAMPLE (South Atlantic Margin Processes and Links with onshore Evolution) is the Priority Program 1375, funded by the DFG
  • Thermomechanical and surface process modeling within the framework of the "Tien Shan - Pamir Geodynamic Program" (TIPAGE) funded by the DFG
