Lithological classification; integrated interpretation

Example Namibia: Tomographic inversions of refraction seismic measurements yielded the distribution of seismic velocities along a profile in NW Namibia which were used to image the lithological units (Bauer et al., 2003). The cross-plot (a), in which the compressional seismic velocity (vp) and the poisson ratio in each cell of the profil are plotted, show characteristic clusters. These can be classified and compared to lab data (b). Spatial remapping yield the distribution of the different lithologies in the subsurface (c).
