Abstract (EDOC: 2187)

Using independent superimposed oscillating constituents a fitting model for the data series is determined through an optimizing procedure. The functional system used in the model is evaluated by successively formed GRAM determinants that guarantee independence and an equal standard of constituents. Applying the method to geomagnetic observatory data series of annual means of field components, results in global characteristics of the main magnetic field and its secular variation as quasi-invariants when the field on the Earth's surface is transformed to the core mantle boundary (CMB).
