An underlying principle of the GFZ is that the geoscientific resources of universities and other research institutions should be combined in national and international joint projects.

GFZ Potsdam maintains various instrument pools for use in the field and global measurement work, a team of engineers specialising in geoscientific instrument technology and a "Task Force" group of specialists for rapid response in natural disasters.
A key component is GFZ’s Modular Earth Science Infrastructure, with satellites, airborne systems, permanent and mobile instrument networks, observatories, drilling equipment, as well as analytical and experimental facilities.

One of our most popular services ist the earthquake bulletin of GEOFON: this earthquake bulletin is a product of the GEOFON Extended Virtual Network (GEVN) and credit belongs to all involved institutions!
