Thin section microscopic photograph of a clinopyroxene twin crystal under polarized light (false coloured) and 200-times magnification. The crystal was found in a volcanic ash layer that was erupted by Mount Vesuvius approximately 9300 years ago and deposited in 6.33 m sediment depth of the maar lake Lago Grande di Monticchio (Basilicata, Southern Italy).
