The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national Research Centre for Geosciences in Germany and a member of the Helmholtz Association.
Department 2, „Physics of the Earth“, Section 2.3 „Earth’s magnetic field“ invites applications for a
PhD Position (m/f)
within the DFG project „Evolution of geomagnetic dipole moment and South Atlantic Anomaly“. The aim of the project is to develop data-based models of the geomagnetic field spanning the past 1000 years, in order to study the evolution of the geomagnetic dipole moment and other characteristic of the field.
Tasks:
- Systematic assessment of available historical and archeomagnetic data
- Literature search to complement the data basis
- Application and modification of existing Fortran code and Linux scripts to develop inverse models
- Presentation and publication of results (in English)
Qualifications:
- Diploma or master’s degree in Earth Sciences (main focus Geophysics), Physics, or related
- Preferably existing programming experience
- Good knowledge of English
- Willingness to work in international cooperations
