The Department 2 “Physics of the Earth”, Section 2.1 “Earthquake Risk and Early Warning”, invites applications for a

PhD Position (m/f).

The PhD project aims to further develop and implement automatic array processing methods in combination with a mobile real-time rapid monitoring system to be developed at GFZ within section 2.1. The developments shall concentrate on seismological array processing and build on the python toolboxes PYROCKO and OBSPY and link to existing established GFZ packages as SEISCOMP.

Innovative research aspects comprise feasibility study for seismological case studies and the analysis of field data from earthquake swarms and volcanic unrest.

The project is accompanied by a technical team. It is performed in close cooperation with sections 2.2 (Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam) and 2.4 (GEOFON, seismology) of GFZ and the University of Potsdam (F. Krüger, M. Ohrnberger).
