The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national Research Centre for Geosciences in Germany and a member of the Helmholtz Association.
Department 5 “Earth Surface Processes”, Section 5.2 “Climate Dynamics and Landscape Evolution”, invites applications for the position of an
Laboratory Manager (m/f)
in the field of non-destructive micro-analyses of high-resolution lake sediment records.
Main goal of Section 5.2 Climate Dynamics and Landscape Evolution is the reconstruction of climatic and environmental changes during the late Quaternary from annually laminated lake sediments and tree rings. A key methodological approach is the combination of high-end micro-facies analyses and µ-XRF element scanning techniques for precise detection particular of abrupt changes in the past.
Tasks:
- Management of the micro-analytical laboratory for lake sediments with an ITRAX µ-XRF core scanner und an EAGLE µ--XRF vacuum scanner
- Development of the method, calibration of scanner data, combinations with micro-facies analyses, high-precision analyses
- Fund raising
- Analyses for running projects, interpretation of results
- Supervision of laboratory staff
- Co-supervision of PhD students
Qualifications:
- PhD in Geology, Geochemistry, Sedimentology or related fields
- Postdoc experience, application of µ-XRF Scanners
- Very good publication record
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Good to very good knowledge of English language
- Knowledge of German or willingness to learn German
