The Humboldt University in Berlin and the GFZ – German Research Centre for Geosciences invite applications for a tenured

W2-S-Professorship for Palaeoclimatology

for five years.

The position is located at Geography Department at Humboldt University and Section 5.2 Climate Dynamics and Landscape Evolution at GFZ.

From the successful candidate we demand to cooperate intensely with existing research groups at Humboldt University and GFZ and to contribute to collaborative projects especially in the Geo.X platform (www.geo-x.net). An active participation in teaching at the Humboldt University is obligatory. We are aiming at deciphering regional leads and lags in the climate system based on precise correlation of high-resolution palaeoclimate records and at a better understanding of the timing and amplitudes of the climatic impacts of large volcanic eruptions. Excellent communication skills in English are required and the ability to communicate in German, or the willingness to learn German, would be of advantage.

Qualifications:

The applicants have to comply the requirements relevant for professorships referred to § 100 Berliner Hochschulgesetz. Prerequisites for the application are a doctoral degree in sedimentology or another relevant discipline of geosciences and a record of research equivalent to the German habilitation. Excellent knowledge of all aspects of distal volcanic ash deposits and lacustrine sediments as climate proxy records demonstrated by a corresponding research portfolio is expected.
