During the latest meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in San Francisco in December 2010, Professor Hermann Lühr was appointed a Fellow of the AGU.

Continuation project for CO2 storage
The project "CO₂ Closure Site Assessment Research", or "CO₂CARE," was launched as part of the 7th EU Research Framework Programme on 1 January 2011 and deals with the development of technologies and procedures to ensure a safe and sustainable sealing of geological CO₂ reservoirs.

The Helmholtz-Alberta-Initiative HAI - 2nd Annual Workshop
On 3rd and 4th  March 2011, the 2. Annual HAI Workshop will be taking place at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. A total of 110 participants, of which over 50 come from the University of Alberta as well as researchers from the participating Helmholtz centres FZJ, GFZ, KIT und UFZ will be taking part in this event. In addition, representatives from the Canadian Embassy, the ALBERTA Germany Office, Munich, as well as from the Helmholtz Headquarters will also be attending the HAI Workshop.
