The Helmholtz-Alberta-Initiative (HAI) is a research collaboration between the Helmholtz Association and the University of Alberta encompassing different key questions in the field of energy and environmental research.
Within the framework of HAI, German and Canadian scientists together research, from the scientific point of view, fundamental questions of landscape development, tailings water management, the use of deep geothermal energy, the separation and storage of CO2 as well as the energy efficient upgrading of bitumen. Respective research work can, among others contribute to an environmental friendly and energy-efficient processing of oil sands. The international promotion of the next generation earth scientists is likewise a key objective within HAI.
