How is the research structured?
Research at the GFZ is organised via the comprehensive research programmes operated by the Helmholtz Association, covering two areas: Earth and Environment, and Energy. Each programme includes a number of topics.

The GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is also part of the Integrated Earth Observation System (Helmholtz EOS) (http://www.gfz-potsdam.de/portal/gfz/Forschung/Programmorientierte_Foerderung;jsessionid=C88789E50DFD1AC6CE2C9B186077334A), which is a Helmholtz research network, linking research on Earth and Environment and Transport and Space − two Helmholtz research fields − for purposes of earth observation. Further centres taking part are AWI, DLR, HZG and KIT.
