The publisher Copernicus starts the new Open Access journal Solid Earth in conjunction with the European Geosciences Union. As usual at Copernicus a two-stage publication process involving the scientific discussion forum Solid Earth Discussions is integrated in the review mode.
GFZ scientists Rainer Kind and Vincent Lesur acts as topical editors.

The easiest way to gain access to electronic journals and databases licensed by the GFZ from outside the campus is to connect to the Internet through a VPN-Client. That is quick to install and simulates an IP number from the GFZ. Using this, it will give you access to all electronic content provided by the library. Required is a valid GFZ account. If interested, please download the corresponding client software (available for the most common operating systems) from the following FTP server: ftp://ftp.gfz-potsdam.de/pub/software/internal/vpn-clients/. For further information please contact the library.

thank you for your feedback on our new website.
In some cases we could react immediately. So, the "short cuts" which show up on every page on the right side were extended with a direct link to your library account.
In the mean time all services are working correct, sorry for any inconvenience. This includes document delivery (interlibrary loan) and RSS-Feeds, our current headlines services on all news from the library (new services, new books, relevant information on scholarly communication).

at last also our new website went online.
Such a change often causes problems. Since seven years our pages haven't changed in their structure, you knew where to find your content.
We hope you will quickly get used to our new structures. May be you will even find content you wasn't aware of. A sitemap and the find feature will probably help you.
We have worked on that relaunch since last year and will develop the pages further. Please let us know on possible problems or missing content.
Accessability:
Please log in, to get access to content which is only available on the site Telegrafenberg. We will extend this part of the site in the next years.
At the moment users from PIK and AWI please use their complete mailadress as login and their library password.
Users from GFZ can already use their common login.
June 16, 2008: 700 regional journal titles added to Web of Science
The number of journals analyzed in the Web of Science has increased. Since years it was critized that regional titles are missing and such research is hampered through this (e.g. in bibliometrics). Now 700 titles from different subjects and world regions were added.

Die "Allianz der deutschen Wissenschaftsorganisationen" hat auf ihrer Sitzung am 11. Juni 2008 die neue Schwerpunktinitiative "Digitale Information" beschlossen. Deren Ziel ist es, eine integrierte digitale Forschungsumgebung zu schaffen. Diese soll die Möglichkeiten der Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, Informationen digital zu erstellen und auszutauschen, weiter verbessern. Der Allianz gehören an: die Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, der Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst, die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, die Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, die Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren sowie die Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, die Leibniz-Gemeinschaft, die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft und der Wissenschaftsrat.
