The San Francisco declaration on research Assessment (DORA) critizes the misuse of Journal Impact Factors (JIF) in research evaluation.
Nature Blog cites Stefano Bertuzzi (executive director of the American Society for Cell Biology and coordinator of DORA):
“We, the scientific community, are to blame — we created this mess, this perception that if you don’t publish in Cell, Nature or Science, you won’t get a job.”
The current Science Editorial supports this declaration:
"These recommendations have thus far been endorsed by more than 150 leading scientists and 75 scientific organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (the publisher of Science)."
