Bibliographic Management Systems
Since years you can use for your personal bibliographic management a number of tools.
Widely used (also on the Telegrafenberg) are classical systems like:
- Windows/Mac: Endnote (styles, import, integration in Word). A smaller version can be used within the Wissenschaftspark as an add-on of the Web of Science licence (once-only registration) without a local installation. A feature overview in comparison with Reference Manager and ProCite you will find here. Alternatively, there is the Swiss bibliography tool Citavi.
- Endnote Connection Files. (visible after login)
- For information on licences to Endnote or Reference Manager please contact V3.
- Unix: BibTeX, Standard format for publication management in LaTex. An open source application for BibTeX: JabRef.
New Systems:
- Publication management via browser (Firefox, version 2.0): Zotero. An open source plugin for Firefox (Styles, import, export, integration in Word) - Now also available as standalone for Windows, Mac and Linux
- See Mendeley as an other interesting example for combined local and online reference management.
- Similar to bookmark tools like Delicious or Mr Wong, there is the possibility to do publication management through the Internet and (if useful) to share with others (Social Software). Obvious benefits of these new systems are independence from platforms and location as well as the opportunity to collaborate with colleages. There are evolved new comprehensive applications, that provide a couple of interesting opportunities (an export to Endnote or BibTeX is possible).
- Connotea. A free offer from Nature.
- Citeulike. Also an open platform, now sponsered by Springer.
- Bibsonomy. Including a plugin for Jabref.
- Endnote Web. Free, but only with Web of Science.
- RefWorks. Commercial platform by CSA.
- Qiqqa Free but still propretiary (Microsoft), development ist based in Cambridge, UK. Comes with an Android application.
Here you can find an updated software comparison of Zotero, Citavi, RefWorks, EndNote and Mendely from the SLUB Dresden (04/2012).
