Seismic Monitoring of the eastern Marmara Sea offshore Istanbul

A 10-station seismic network of ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) was deployed in the eastern Sea of Marmara around the northern slope of the Cinarcik Basin to decrease the earthquake-magnitude detection threshold in this region. The recording period of the network was 2 months (November 2005 - January 2006). The combination of the OBS recordings with data from permanent and temporary landstations of the region allows to identify the active and inactive branches of the NAFZ in this region. At the same time this data set (being presently under evaluation) serves as pre-site survey for the planned deep drill hole on the Prince Islands (GONAF).
