Section 3.4: Fluid Systems Modelling

In the Fluid Systems Modelling Section, we see it as our mission to look for solutions for future controversial topics relating to man, energy, the Earth and the environment, and thus make a significant contribution to the goal set by the Helmholtz Association: "Securing the foundations of human life long-term." Our general research goal is to acquire an in-depth understanding of balance and exchange of matter in groundwater systems, as well as to enable the quantification of available resources from a water management point of view (safe yield under consideration of the European Water Framework Directive). For the reasons mentioned above, our research at the Fluid Systems Modelling Section of the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences focuses on the characterization of groundwater circulation between deep and shallow groundwater systems using computer-assisted process simulations.
