About the person

Function and Responsibilities:

Research associate in Geochemistry/Geophysics.

Research Interests:

My research interests involve the application of experimental techniques and methods for probing the structural and electronic properties of geomaterials under varying pressure and temperature conditions. These include:

  • Heated diamond anvil cell for generating extremely high pressure and temperature environments
  • Infrared (in-house and synchrotron-based) and Raman spectroscopy for monitoring vibrational properties at extreme conditions
  • X-ray diffraction for full structural information (Rietveld refinements)
  • Near-infrared and UV-VIS spectroscopy for electronic properties

Career:

  • since 12/2015: Postdoctoral research associate at GFZ Potsdam, Section 4.3 "Chemistry and Physics of Earth Materials"
  • 03/2015 - 11/2015: Postdoctoral research associate at the Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemtstry, National Hellenic Research Foundation, Athens, Greece
  • 10/2012 - 01/2014: Postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Physics, Oakland University, Michigan U.S.A.
  • 12/2011 - 09/2012: Postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany

Education:

  • 2011: PhD in Solid State Physics. Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany and Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (joint)
  • 2007: Master of Science in Material Physics. Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
  • 2005: Bachelor of Sciences in Physics. Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
