This question will be dealt with on January 23rd at a lecture event of the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the GFZ. Experts from scientific institutions, agencies, and the industry will discuss the developing of resource use not only in Germany, but also worldwide, even in the deep ocean.

A growing world population in combination with the equal right of all world citizens on a good standard of living, demand for balanced scientific and economic concepts that protect basic natural resources (water, food, energy resources) as well as technological progress (securing of demand for high tech resources). National and international governmental approval procedures must keep pace. Politics must develop frameworks that enable constant economic exploitation and technological progress.

Dealing with resources takes place at the interface of economy and science and therefore is an exciting field of activity for geoscientists.
