Personalia | Plinius Medal for Bruno Merz

24.04.2017: On this year’s annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union EGU, 24 to 29 April in Vienna, Bruno Merz, Head of the GFZ section Hydrology, is awarded with the Plinius Medal. Further GFZ awardees are XingXing Li, Dirk Scherler, Stefanie Tofelde, and Florian Ott.

24.04.2017: On this year’s annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union EGU, 24 to 29 April in Vienna, Bruno Merz, Head of the GFZ section Hydrology, is awarded with the Plinius Medal. Further GFZ awardees are XingXing Li, Dirk Scherler, Stefanie Tofelde, and Florian Ott.

Furthermore, Tuija I. Pulkkinen, Aalto Universität Finland, is awarded with the Julius Bartels Medal for her contributions in the field of solar-terrestrial research. Pulkkinen is Vice Chair of the GFZ Scientific Advisory Council.

The Plinius Medal is awarded by the EGU Natural Hazards Division to recognize interdisciplinary natural hazard research that has been applied in the field of mitigation of risk. Since 2012 it is awarded to „Outstanding Mid-Career Scientists“.

Xingxing Li, GFZ section Space Geodetic Techniques, and Dirk Scherler, assistant professor for cosmogenic nuclides in the GFZ section Geochemistry of the Earth’s surface, are honored as „Outstanding Early Career Scientists“ in the EGU Divisions Geodesy and Geomorphology, respectively. Stefanie Tofelde, PhD student in the GFZ section Geomorphology, and PhD student Florian Ott, section Climate Dynamics and Landscape Evolution, are honored for their „outstanding student poster“ that were presented at the EGU 2016.
