18.10.2016: Ernst Huenges and Thomas Reinsch, GFZ section Geothermal Energy Systems, took part in the 3rd "Innovation for Cool Earth Forum" in Tokyo, Japan, invited by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The meeting was held in the frame of the G7 Working Groupfor International Joint Research and Development.

On a meeting of the G7 Ministers of Energy, last May, potentials of international research cooperations and programs in the field of clean energy technologies were discussed. The aim is to promote research projects and cooperations that have the potential to support greenhouse gas emission reduction.

The fields of technology discussed now in Tokyo, were hydrogen carrier systems and high temperature geothermal power generation. Twenty participants from international research institutions and universities took part in the meeting. The GFZ is incorporated in the field of geothermal power generation. Emphasis is on material development for high temperature conditions as well as on the numerical simulation of Enhanced Geothermal Systems. (ak)
