19.12.2016: The final meeting of the project “Seismic monitoring and vulnerability framework for civil protection” SIBYL was held at the GFZ on 7 December, organized by the GFZ Centre for Early Warning Systems. SIBYL was set out to develop an operational framework for Civil Protection authorities for the rapid and cost-effective assessment of the built environment's seismic vulnerability.

When seismic swarms or foreshocks occur, civil protection personal has to react promptly and for example assess options for action. The new framework provides information to advise decision makers on the most appropriate preventative actions.

The project, initiated on January 2015, ends on 31 December 2016. During the final meeting, representatives of the project partners together with the project officer from the Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection program of the European Commission (EC-ECHO) as well as representatives from the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) discussed the potential of the produced tools and further efforts.

Besides the GFZ, project partners are the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, the Technical University Berlin, Germany, and the Research Centre AMRA (Analysis and Monitoring of environmental risks), Naples, Italy.
