On 4 May the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Potsdam repeatedly after 2015 honored the GFZ with the Euro-Apprenticeship medal.


05.05.2017 | Personalia | GFZ Prize for Senior Scientists awarded to Sebastian Hainzl

Every year the GFH honors outstanding scientists with the GFZ Prize for Senior Scientists. The Senior Scientist Price for 2016 is awarded to Sebastian Hainzl, GFZ section Physics of Earthquakes and Volcanoes. Anja Maria Schleicher GFZ section Inorganic and Isotope Geochemistry, is awarded with the price for young scientists.


26.04.2017 | Personalia | New Head for GFZ section Organic Geochemistry

On the first of April Kai Mangelsdorf became provisional Head of the GFZ section Organic Geochemistry. He succeeds Brian Horsfield who was Head of section since 2001. Brian Horsfield was given a ceremonial farewell colloquium on last Friday.


25.04.2017 | Personalia | Climate science in the bathing lake – Theresa Grunwald takes part in the FameLab finals

Theresa Grunwald, PhD student in the GFZ section Geomorphology, won the preliminary round of FameLab Berlin/Brandenburg that was taking place on Telegrafenberg in Potsdam at the beginning of April. The audience was impressed by her talk on "How to decipher a lake's memory". This Thursday Theresa Grunwald will take part in the national final of FameLab in Bielefeld.

24.04.2017: On this year’s annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union EGU, 24 to 29 April in Vienna, Bruno Merz, Head of the GFZ section Hydrology, is awarded with the Plinius Medal. Further GFZ awardees are XingXing Li, Dirk Scherler, Stefanie Tofelde, and Florian Ott.


11.04.2017 | Personalia | Sofia-Katerina Kufner awarded for best presentation

On the 77th annual meeting of the Deutsche Geophysikalische Gesellschaft DGG, from 27 to 30 March in Potsdam, Sofia-Katerina Kufner, GFZ section Lithosphere Dynamics, was awarded with the Prize for the best presentation.


01.03.2017 | Personalia | Humboldt Research Fellow Kusiak is for a research stay at the GFZ

Monika Kusiak comes as a Humboldt Research Fellow to the GFZ, section Chemistry and Physics of Earth Materials, for eleven months, starting on 1 March. She is an Associate Professor at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. At the GFZ she will be working on improving age determination of rocks via the mineral zircon, in the team of Richard Wirth.
