Charlotte Krawczyk, Head of GFZ Department Geophysics, was recently appointed member of the newly established Senate Commission „Earth System Science“ (SKE) of the German Research Foundation DFG.


13.10.2017 | Personalia| Three new Humboldt Fellows at the GFZ

Three scientists come to the GFZ with funding from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Jessica Stanley, GFZ section Earth Surface Process Modelling, and Vasso Saltogianni, GFZ section Lithosphere Dynamics, are now Humboldt Postdoc Research Fellows. Yosuke Yamazaki, GFZ section Geomagnetism, receives the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers. 


06.10.2017 | Personalia | Juliane Dannberg wins Prize for Science Communication

Yesterday, Juliane Dannberg, formerly GFZ-section Geodynamical modelling, was awarded with the “KlarText – Prize for Science Communication” in Heidelberg. She has convinced the jury with an article about rock movement in Earth´s interior, a text that should even make non-scientists interested about what is happening in scientific research. Along with Juliane Dannberg six young scientists were honored. They can look forward to 5,000 Euro in prize money.

Brian Horsfield has been declared winner of the inaugural “AAPG Europe Energy Geoscience Research Award” for 2017 by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).

Liane G. Benning, head of the GFZ section Interface Geochemistry, was recently elected to the Academia Europaea (AE).


07.09.2017 | Personalia | Stefano Parolai becomes new director of the OGS in Trieste

Starting on 1 September, Stefano Parolai, former Head of the GFZ Centre for Early Warning Systems, becomes Director of the Center for Seismological Research (CSR) at the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) in Trieste, Italy. Interims manager of the GFZ sections becomes Jörn Lauterjung, Director of the department Geoservices.


01.09.2017 | Personalia | Humboldt awardee Yehuda Ben-Zion joins GFZ

Yehuda Ben-Zion, geophysicist and professor at the University of Southern California, again joins the GFZ for the period of September to December 2017 as a visiting scientist and Humboldt awardee in section Geomechanics and Rheology.
