The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national research centre for Earth sciences in Germany. For Section 1.3 “Earth System Modelling” we invite applications for a

Research Scientist (m/f) in Modelling of Ice-Sheet Dynamics
Reference No. 21/13/16 G

The position is announced for a young researcher to represent the ice-dynamics component in the earth-system modelling section of GFZ which provides analyses for geodetic observing systems and present-day dynamics.

Tasks:
  • numerical modelling of large-scale continental ice-sheet dynamics
  • quantification of ice-sheet dynamics and glacial mass balances from satellite observations
  • dynamic interaction of ice-sheet and glacier dynamics with ocean, continental hydrosphere and solid earth
  • assimilation of glacial models to geodetic and geophysical observations
  • quantification of model-inherent uncertainties
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree and Ph.D. degree in physics, geophysics, glaciology, oceanography or a related discipline
  • advanced skills in numerical process modelling and statistical analysis of data
  • experiences in data assimilation techniques are an advantage
  • interest in cooperative research in a multidisciplinary and international environment
  • good command of English
Starting date as soon as possible
Fixed term 3 years
Salary EG 13 TVöD-Bund (Ost)
Working hours full-time (currently 39 h/week)
The position is, in principle, suitable for part-time employment.
Location Potsdam
